We have raced only a few horses this past winter as planned. We will start getting some of the 3 year olds and the rested horses up to speed and qualified shortly. We primarily come to Florida to get out of the bad winter months up north and to train our 2 and 3 year olds and freshen up our race horses. Florida gives the horse’s a great place to train and stay healthy without all the obstacles of bad weather. There is a reason why spring training in baseball is in the south and not the north. I believe the same goes for the horse who also is an athlete. Stall rent in Pompano is only $125 per month for race horses and $200 per month for yearlings/2 year olds which is very reasonable for a great facility and race track and sunshine…..
We have not missed a day of training with our two 2 year olds we have in training. I have a Western Ideal colt named Palisades Hanover who is Pa. eligible and has been in 2:38. I have been taking it a bit slower with him since he is a big good looking colt with open knees and he is an April foal.
I have a nice Somebeachsomewhere filly named Lovetheoneyourwith who had some early quirks that had to be worked out mostly to do with wolf teeth needing to be taken out. After we did that she has been just great. She has been in 2:27 twice now and is way ahead of my schedule. She will train in 2:25 on Saturday 2/28 and then get turned out for 7 days to back her off a bit. Even though it is very early I am starting to have high hopes for her.

The 2014 racing season at Pocono Downs has featured great purses and fast and furious competitive racing. Our stable has held it’s own and done well this year with the age pacers Steelhead Hanover winning in 148:3 and Bet On The Law winning in 148:4. On the trotting side Keystone Thomas has won in 153:3 and the aged pacing mare Arodasi took back to back lifetime marks in 150:4 and 150:1.
We started the year with four two year olds and all of them made the races. The pacing colts were led by the speedy but inconsistent hard luck NY bred K Ryan Bluechip (Art major-Fool That I Am). He won his baby race and took a mark of 154:2 and then raced in 8 NYSS races with 2 second place finishes and 3 third place finishes with earnings of $31,558. The home bred pacing colt Kiss Up (Quick Pulse Mindale-Pucker Up) took a baby race record of 158:1 and we sold him for $12,000.
We started with two 2 year old pacing fillies. Icappella Hanover (Somebeachsomewhere-I’m Sassy) she made 6 starts with 2 wins and 2 second place finishes with earnings of $35,000 so far. She has 2 wins and a 2nd place finish in the PASS Stallian stakes and finished 2nd in the final at The Meadows for a purse of $40,000.
Our other 2 year old filly Heart Major (Art Major-Ru Girl) may be the fastest of the two fillies but she fell behind in training down due to a small injury and sickness. She has had 2 starts and paced in 154:2 with a last 1/4 in 27:2 in her first lifetime start.
We will continue to race at Pocono Downs ,Harrah;s Philadelphia and Yonkers Race track till December 1st. We will take a small contingent of horses to Pompano Park race track in Florida around November 4th that will consist of some race horses and yearlings we purchase at the sales. The remaining race horses will come down on December 1st.
If you are training race horse’s or breaking yearlings Pompano Park gives your horse the best facility to do this. After you pay good money for your yearlings and race horses you would want them to have every benefit and advantage on there side to reach there potential and in Florida with great weather you get that rather than the bad weather and frozen tracks up north.
